Dsungaripterus weii (Julius T. Csotonyi)

Dsungaripterus weii (2010)

Digital painting / photographic composite

The pterosaur Dsungaripterus weii, from Early Cretaceous China. The bizarre tweezer-like mandibles combined with the thick, bone-sheathed teeth were probably well-suited to probing for and crushing shells of molluscs.
